"Today we split up our work force. 2 boys went to do cheese making. 2 boys cleaned the cow barn, horse barn + the pig barn.
Dad and 1 boy went to a wood cutting for our local school.
When the day was done we rested from our labors."

"Tonight while doing the evening milking, I became aware of my younger siblings.
My nine-year-old brother was in the milk house, singing lustily while mixing the calves evening milk. Sometimes the speed of his stirring matched with the pitch of his song.
When finished he came out to where the two youngest (a boy and a girl) were in tow and together they parked before the calf pen to feed them."
-Sister
"Recently our cow, named Leta had a little boy-calf. It was her first calf.
The calf is fawn colored with a white half moon-shaped spot on the forehead and a few other spots on various parts of the body.
Just today I taught the calf to drink from a bucket."

"Today my aunts and cousins came to help get ready for a gathering here.
Throughout the day my brothers (13 and 11) harished up the horses and hitched them to the big wagon to give them children a ride.
The children down to the 2 and 3 year old's, were loaded up and they took a ride to the back fields while shrieks of happy laughter and excited chatter filled the air..."

"Today my brother brought the horses out and hitched them to the big wagon.
The two youngest went with him back to the field to fix the fence.
Coming up at lunch time my brother unhitched the horses from the big wagon then gave the two youngest a ride to the barn on the horses' back."

"This afternoon we were in the backyard playing croquet with dad, when the two youngest went back to the field to bring the cows home for the evening milking.
Mom was standing at the kitchen window watching. She saw the little boy standing at the gate, and the little girl walked on back to bring up the cows.
In the middle of the field she suddenly turned around and came running back, and mom could tell by all her actions that one of the cows had a calf.
Hand in hand dad and us children went to bring the cow and calf to the barn."
